IN BID TO PROMOTE TRADE AND INVESTMENT BETWEEN UGANDA AND IRAN, CHARGE D' AFFAIRS MR. MUKABIRE BENJAMIN VISITS MAKU FREE TRADE ZONE

In a bid to promote and strengthen trade and investment between Uganda and Iran, the Charge d'Affaires Mr. Mukabire Benjamin and Economic Affairs officer Mr Dennis Tumukunde visited the Maku Free Trade Zone, the largest independent Trade zone in the world in West Azerbaijan Province of Iran where they held various meetings with different officials and companies including Arman Partove Paydar International Company that imports mainly Ugandan tea into Iran, Taouresi Trading Company and Shaivand Trading Company dealing in coffee and agricultural products. 

The team also met the CEO of the trade zone and also Director customs and had fruitful deliberations on how they can improve business relations between the two countries to take advantage of the large market base of over 300 million people that the trade zone supplies as it is the main land gateway to Eastern Europe through direct links and sharing of boarders with Turkey, Azerbaijan, Russia and Armenia. 

The team also inspected the products imported from Uganda into the free trade zone and discussed the challenges faced by the business partners especially to do with delay in delivery of the products, effects of the sanctions on the Islamic Republic of Iran and promised to cooperate with the business partners through the Uganda Embassy in Tehran in resolving such challenges for improved future economic cooperation between the two countries.
