THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE OF THE UGANDAN STUDENTS IN QOM PROVINCE-IRAN VISIT AMBASSADOR KISAMBIRA AT THE OFFICIAL RESIDENCE IN TEHRAN

Uganda has students studying in Qom Islamic Seminary which is located in the South of  Tehran. In the province of Qom. They study Islamic studies, Arabic, philosophy, natural and abstract sciences as well as Arabic and Arabic literature.


The following were the students’ representatives who visited his Excellency the Ambassador:

1.     Hassan Musoke

2.     Luttamaguzi Yassir Mukiibi

3.     Yawe Najib

4.     Ali Mugenyi Asooka

The students 'representatives expressed gratitude for the Ambassador to accept their request for the meeting. They told the Ambassador that the Uganda community in Qom totals to 40 students with some having spouses and children.

Matters discussed

·       The students requested the Ambassador to prevail upon the consular department to expedite their assistance in terms of getting new Passports as some of their colleagues’ passports had expired;

·       Ambassador should provide assistance in certifying their certificates when they have completed their studies;

·       If work opportunities were available at the Embassy, the students from Qom with the required education should be considered for those positions;

·       During independence and other Uganda national days of celebrations they should be invited to participate.

Ambassador Kisambira welcomed the students’ representatives at the Official Residence and regretted not meeting them sooner because of the restrictions of the pandemic.

Regarding the issuance of other passports in case the originals have expired, Ambassador Kisambira told the students representatives that it is the responsibility of the Embassy to provide that assistance and assured them that this will be done, as long as they submitted their request on time. And the certification of their education certificates will be done.

On the issue of invitation on Uganda national days Ambassador Kisambira told them that the only challenge currently ever since he was appointed to be the Ambassador in Iran, has been the Covid 19 pandemic which restricts congregations, otherwise when the situation normalizes then they will always be invited.

Regarding the work opportunities, Ambassador Kisambira told them that currently the budget doesn’t allow to employ more people but should the Embassy get a top up in the budget, their request will be considered.
